Health Ministry Team News
Your Wesley Health Ministries Team is always looking for ways to fulfill its mission statement: to find ways to bridge the gap between the spiritual, physical and emotional health of the Wesley church family members. Team Chairperson is Lainie Banner, and the committee consists of members from several different health care fields. New Ministry with Deaf People
Lift Holy Hands, our sign language choir, will begin rehearsing Thursday September 16 at 7pm in Praise and Worship A (back by the sound booth) so that we might assist the certified sign language interpreter from Abshire Interpreting Service.
![]() We will have an organizational meeting on Thursday September 2 at 7pm in Praise and Worship Classroom A. We will skip the September 9 date, due to a banquet in the praise and worship center. We will begin rehearsals on Thursday September 16 at 7pm. If you paid for your shirt last year, it is here now and you are welcome to pick it up at the organizational meeting. Our choir will be under the direction of Jan Ray. All signers are welcome. We will be doing solos, duets, and whole choir songs as we build our repertoire. There might be times we will be asked to sign in a different service, or for a seasonal event. No one is required to sign in the worship service, but we hope that a small group will want to complement the Praise Band for the 9:15am service. Red shirts and black pants are the uniform.
This ministry will allow us to open our doors to the deaf community of Beaumont, where there is currently no other United Methodist Church offering interpreted services.
We will be offering sign language classes and increasing the interpreting in the 9:15am worship service weekly and other services occasionally. Help us learn to greet people in their language of signs. The 10:30am College Age Class will be sign interpreted and later, as people come, we might find ourselves needing to provide greeters and interpreters for other classes and programs.
Beginning Sunday August 22, 2010, a sign language interpreter will be on hand to interpret the entire worship service each week as we open our hearts, minds, and doors to the deaf community of Beaumont. As far as we know, there is no other United Methodist Church in our area offering a completely signed worship service. Please help us spread the word in the community so that people who know deaf people will be able to invite them to worship at Wesley. Questions? Contact Rev. Wineva Hankamer, 892-7733 (voice/tty) or whankamer@wesleyumc.com.
Blood Drive Our next drive is September 12, so stay well and be ready to sign up on Sunday August 29 at the welcome centers. Please support this Blood Drive with the Gift of Life. Dan Soto is the Blood Drive Chairperson. Sign Up Tables will be available in the Welcome Centers on August 29 and September 5.
First Aid Stations for Church Events We provide RN's and or EMT's to staff our First Aid Stations at Vacation Bible School and other churchwide events, such as Fall Festival and Road to Bethlehem. If you want to serve in this way, please contact Lainie Banner or Wineva Hankamer at 892-7733 or whankamer@wesleyumc.com. Please email winevahankamer@wesleyumc.com to let us know about members of the Wesley family who have a professional connection to the health care fields: counselors, nurses, physicians, dentists, therapists, and what classes or groups you are in. That way, we will know all of our resources as a congregation as ministry happens! |
